OverDrive
Cleveland, OH
Eric Miller is OverDrive’s Director of Data and Information Science, where he leads development of OverDrive’s Knowledge Graph and next-generation discovery tools across Libby, Sora, Kanopy, and TeachingBooks. He oversees data repositories processing billions of transactions monthly and drives innovation in how readers and students explore library collections. Miller is a foundational architect of the Semantic Web, having led the Semantic Web Activity for the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) while serving as a Research Scientist at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). His work at W3C was instrumental in developing RDF (Resource Description Framework), the technology that enables Linked Data across the Web and provides the foundation for modern AI systems to understand and process information. Miller provided technical leadership for the Library of Congress in developing BIBFRAME, the Linked Data standard transforming how libraries share bibliographic information. Prior to this, he co-founded the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative at OCLC, creating one of the most widely adopted metadata standards. His work bridging web technologies and library science continues to shape how libraries connect with their communities.
